We are writing to update you on the next steps YYNAC is taking as Victoria moves into a new phase of the Treaty process.
The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria will soon transition into a new Treaty body known as Gellung Warl. As this change approaches, YYNAC is focused on ensuring that Yorta Yorta people are informed, supported, and ready to have a strong and united voice in what Treaty could mean for us on Country.
To support this, YYNAC will be holding a series of Treaty readiness conversations with Family Groups and community members.
These conversations are not about negotiating Treaty.
They are about:
- Sharing clear and accessible information
- Listening to our people
- Understanding what matters most to our community
We want to hear from you about your:
- Priorities
- Concerns
- Hopes for future generations
These discussions will help guide YYNAC in moving forward with cultural integrity, strong governance, and community backing.
During these sessions, we will:
- Explain the transition to Gellung Warl
- Clarify YYNAC’s role and responsibilities
- Outline how community can be involved
- Most importantly, listen to your voices
Treaty readiness must be guided by Family Groups, Elders, and community. This is about our future, our Country, and our collective voice.
