The Cultural Heritage Unit protects, preserves and promotes the rich cultural heritage of the Yorta Yorta Nation. As the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) for Yorta Yorta Country, we work with Traditional Owners, government agencies, developers and land managers to ensure Aboriginal cultural heritage is recognised, respected and protected for future generations.
The Cultural Heritage Unit has important statutory responsibilities under Victoria’s Aboriginal Heritage Act, including:
Assessing Cultural Heritage Management Plans
Determining Cultural Heritage Permit applications
Providing advice on cultural heritage matters
Supporting repatriation of Aboriginal ancestral remains and cultural objects
Participating in Cultural Heritage Agreements
Working collaboratively with stakeholders to protect significant cultural places
Every decision we make is guided by our responsibility to care for Country and preserve Yorta Yorta cultural heritage. By working together with industry, government and community, we help ensure development occurs respectfully while protecting places of cultural significance.
