LIVING MURRAY FACILITATOR

The Living Murray Facilitator will be the conduit for contact from state and federal government departments, including consultation requirements on anything related to the Water Act 1989 Victoria, as expressed through the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, and the Victorian Government Aboriginal Water Policy (2016).

This position will contribute to environmental and cultural outcomes from a water perspective for the Yorta Yorta community. It will work with the Council of Elders, community and government partners to develop information on Traditional Owner water values and uses of water in the Murray River and associated waters environment and contribute to the identification of Yorta Yorta water objectives and outcomes.

The role will be supported by Yorta Yorta Nation to both assist government –primarily at state and delivery agent level – and Yorta Yorta Nation, in determining engagement protocols, priorities for engagement on state government water, understanding and responding to the Yorta Yorta Nation’s expectations and priorities, including in assisting government on understanding preferred means of engagement with Traditional Owners on water policy and planning, including means of presentation, timelines, and expectations.
